That Little Voice That Whispers "Uh Oh..." When Things Are Really Good.

Updated: May 13

Ever been there? You know, when life feels like it's finally clicking into place. Maybe you landed that dream job, your relationships are thriving, or you're just feeling genuinely happy and grateful. And then... whisper... a little voice starts chiming in with all the reasons why this can't last. Trust me, you're not alone. I've been navigating this weird headspace lately too.

It's like my brain has a secret club of unwelcome guests – let's call them the "Ex-Doubts" and the "Uh Ohs."

My personal Ex-Doubts? Oh, you'd recognize them. They're the ghosts of "Not Good Enough," the lingering visions of "I'm Going to Mess This Up," and the blurry image of "Who Do You Think You Are?" They show up uninvited, usually right when I'm feeling my most confident, and I start flipping through old photo albums of past insecurities.

And the Uh Ohs? Those are the little anxiety monsters that whisper, "This can't be real," or "Something bad is definitely around the corner." They love to pop up when good things are happening, like a tiny crack in a perfect piece of art.

Sound familiar? I bet you have your own versions of these unwelcome visitors. Maybe your Ex-Doubt is "I just got lucky, I’m not that smart," or the Uh Oh that keeps you up at night is "I’ve never done this before." or “What if I look foolish?”.  Go ahead, fill in the blanks for yourself. What are the names of your Ex's and Uh Oh's?

But here's what I truly believe about these mental hurdles:

They're not roadblocks; they're actually strength-building exercises. It's like the world is saying, "Okay, you've reached this new level. Now, let's see how you navigate these familiar shadows." Because let's be real, we didn't get this far by accident. We've overcome challenges, learned from mistakes, and leaned on others.

And that's the key, isn't it? We're not meant to do this alone.

So, when those Ex-Doubts start knocking and the Uh Ohs begin to feel a little too loud,

Here's what I'm trying to remember:

  • Reach Out: Raise your hand and tell someone you're struggling. A friend, a mentor, a coach, a therapist – anyone who can offer a listening ear or a fresh perspective.

  • Give Back: Lift your heart by helping others. Sometimes, focusing on someone else's needs can quiet those internal critics and put your own struggle in a new light.

  • Speak Your Truth: Raise your voice and share what you're going through with someone you trust. Voicing those fears can often diminish their power.

  • Move Your Body: Raise your energy with exercise. It's amazing how a good sweat session can clear the mental clutter.

  • Choose Kindness: Raise your mind with love and self-compassion. Talk to yourself the way you'd talk to a dear friend.

You woke up with breath in your lungs today. That's a powerful reminder in itself.

Let's breathe out gratitude for what we have and consciously expand our capacity for love, growth, and joy.

You are absolutely, unequivocally not alone in this. We're all navigating our own versions of the Ex-Doubts and the Uh Ohs. The bravest thing we can do is keep moving forward, and upward together.
