That familiar feeling of shifting gears – from one role to the next, your mind already leaping ahead while you're still in the present. Sound familiar? If your mental to-do list is spinning before you've even finished your first cup of coffee, you're not alone. Mine too!
So, how do we navigate the demands of the week, accomplish what needs to get done, and still find joy and fulfillment along the way?
Here are two simple resets that consistently help me feel good about how I show up, no matter what the week throws my way.
First, Identify your ROLES.
Think about the different roles that shape your day. Perhaps some of these resonate:
Mom
Wife/Partner
Business Owner
Employee
Aunt
Daughter, Sister
Caregiver
Mentor
Coach
Leader
Volunteer
Friend
Which of these apply to you? What others would you add to this list?
Chances are, you embody at least five of these in a single day.
Once you have a clear picture of your roles, let's move on to the next crucial step.
Step Two: Uncovering your CORE VALUES.
This list could be extensive, so let me share a few of mine to spark your own reflection:
Bravery
Adventure
Empathy
Compassion
Kindness
Calmness
Learning
Leadership
Growth
Generosity
Creativity
Happiness
Love
Family
Encouragement
Friendship
To make these more actionable, I like to narrow it down to my TOP FIVE:
Adventure, Compassion, Leadership, Creativity, and Family.
And then, even further, to my GUIDING TWO : Compassion and Leadership.
Now, as I step into each role throughout the day, I consciously bring Compassion and Leadership with me. This simple act helps me focus on what truly matters in each moment.
I ask myself: Am I showing up with my core values right now?
This intentional approach brings more joy and fulfillment to my day. At the end of the week, I can reflect knowing that I gave my best, guided by what I value most. And on the days when I inevitably forget (because those will happen!), I know that with practice, more and more of my days will align with a life lived by choice rather than reaction.
Will you architect your days, or let them choose for you?
What do you truly desire to do? Who do you want to serve?
Identify your ROLES.
Live them with your CORE VALUES.
