Do you have decision fatigue?

Every day the people we work with or for, our families, our friends, and strangers on our phones, ask for more of our time. We become so exhausted by engagement that we don’t have the energy to make important decisions. We often participate in what we consider mindless engagement…… but there is no such thing.

Your mind is always engaged. We talk negatively to ourselves inside our heads, we negotiate with our values; we judge other people's choices, actions, and words. We fill our time with things we convince ourselves are important or that we deserve.

We do the things that come easily, the things that are familiar. Anything that helps us avoid what we know we could do better.

These choices cause confusion, reactive living, and self-doubt in our minds. When we don’t make choices that align with who we desire to be, we feel lost and overwhelmed. It’s even possible we have never gotten quiet enough to figure out who we are or who we want to become.

Decision fatigue* is one of the greatest distractions that keeps us from pursuing goals or sticking with habits that we know will benefit us.

Take a step towards a happier, more fulfilling life by thinking about what you value most.

What characteristics are important to you?

What attributes do you have or desire to create in your life?

An easy exercise that will change your trajectory is selecting 3-5 values you want to keep as the center of your life. These may not always stay the same but reminding yourself of what you value will help you live with more clarity and direction. You can make choices that align with who you are instead of just copying someone else’s choices.

Here’s the exercise.** Search the internet for a list of values. Write down the ones that resonate with you. Take what is likely a very long list of things you value and put them into categories of 5 based on similarity. Select one value from each of these categories, this will give you 5 values. Think about the 5 Values you selected and narrow them down to 3. Write the 3 values you want most and put them somewhere you will see them, to remind you daily.

Making choices that align with your values will take practice but will create more freedom, harmony, and joy in your life. It will also build confidence. Our minds and bodies keep score of the things we do that are not aligned with what we value. When you make clearer choices, it will bring more peace to the chaos of life.

What you choose in life will tell you what you value.

What are you currently choosing over what you say you value?

Think about it. Use your values to guide your choices.

You are an individual with unique abilities and endless possibilities that can only be put into play by you!

Never perfect. Always learning.
