Are you a heap of opinions?

We all have opinions, and we’re constantly bombarded with them from every direction. But what if we paused and listened to truly understand? What if we asked questions when something isn’t clear, instead of assuming we know? Could we lean in a little more?
I’ll admit, I’m the queen of assumptions. For most of my life, I’ve thought I knew what others were thinking, what their words meant, or what they were implying. Asking questions has been a skill I’ve had to consciously develop, and I know it’s something I’ll continue to work on for the rest of my life.
The power of asking questions has been transformative for me. It’s improved my marriage, my relationships, my pusuits, and my business. I feel more connected to the people closest to me, I understand those who are different from me, and I’m learning faster than ever before.
When people “bump” into you, do they knock over a heap of opinions, wisdom, and knowledge that’s hard to contain? (I know I’m guilty of this!)
When you feel a strong opinion bubbling up, try locking the gate on your ego and your assumptions. Instead, try leaning in with curiosity, kindness, compassion, and generosity. You might not get the response you expect, but you’ll immediately elevate yourself to a higher level of peace and goodness. Choosing extraordinary actions over ordinary ones is how we rise to the next level in our lives.
So, who will you pause to listen to today? What assumption in your life could benefit from more thoughtful questioning?
Take a moment today to ask someone meaningful questions, like:
What has been challenging for you this week?
What’s something you’ve accomplished or feel really good about today?
What is weighing on your mind? What can you do about it?
How can I help?
What are you most excited about right now?
Sometimes all we need to improve our lives and the lives of those around us, is a simple pause and a meaningful question.
So I'm asking you:
What has been challenging for you this week?
What’s something you’ve accomplished or feel really good about today?
What is weighing on your mind? What can you do about it?
How can I help?
What are you most excited about right now?
Reach out. What's on your mind today?
Much Love,
Sarah
